Liv Curiously Therapy
Therapy for BIPOC Gen Z & Millennials in New York & Virginia
Does this sound familiar?…
You pour yourself into self-help books searching for answers as to why you’re feeling disconnected from yourself.
You overthink and doubt yourself about making decisions so you ask everyone else what they think because you have trouble trusting yourself.
You criticize yourself and make self-deprecating jokes because you grew up with family members always judging you and saying how “dramatic” you are.
You grew up within a family plagued by mental health issues, addiction, and alcoholism.
The idea of expressing your emotions to a friend or partner terrifies you so you suck it up and pretend everything is fine because you also don’t want to cause conflict.
You’re a 1st or 2nd gen adult who is the peacemaker in your family and you constantly feel a sense of responsibility for making everyone else happy.
A part of you never feels enough in relationships.
You struggle with setting boundaries in relationships, at work, and with family because you’ve taught that speaking up was rude, selfish, or disrespectful.

Understanding Your Emotional Landscape:
Imagine your emotions as a compass, guiding you towards a deeper understanding of yourself. they signal when something feels off, highlight old wounds that need attention, and simply remind you that you’re human. In our sessions, we’ll gently explore these feelings. We’ll learn to listen to them, not push them away- something you might have been taught to do. This process of emotional awareness is a key step in therapy for healing and helps you understand your emotional triggers and learn effective boundary setting.
Connecting with Your Inner Self: Parts Work Therapy
We all have different ‘parts’ inside us - like an inner critic, a worried part, or a playful part. Using a technique called parts work therapy, rooted in Internal Family Systems, we’ll get to know these parts. This helps you understand what each part needs, learn to be kinder to yourself (self-compassion), build self-confidence, and improve your relationships.
Listening to Your Body: Healing from Trauma
Sometimes, past experiences can disconnect us from our bodies. It becomes harder to trust our gut feelings, especially in social situations. In our sessions, we'll reconnect your mind-body connection. I might ask you, 'Where do you feel that anxiety in your body?' or 'Can you show me where you feel tension?' This body awareness is essential in therapy and helps you find new ways of caring for yourself.
Picture a life where each breath flows more freely, where tension dissipates, and certainty in yourself and your choices blossoms.
Therapy is more than just a place to vent. It’s a virtual sanctuary where you can release tension you’ve been holding for so many years. You’re realizing that maybe you don’t have to live on autopilot anymore and there’s a reality where you feel less on edge and more at ease.
